Via Egnatia Route is a project that follows the course of today’s Egnatia Odos highway, stretching from Kipoi (Evros) in the east to Igoumenitsa in the west. It aims to create a comprehensive digital guide that highlights key destinations, landscapes, monuments, and experiences along and across this axis.
Inspired by the legacy of the ancient Roman Via Egnatia, the project does not merely reconstruct a historical path — it brings together culture, nature, local communities, road connectivity and thematic tourism, transforming the contemporary route into a dynamic travel corridor across Northern Greece.
The Via Egnatia Route combines archaeological sites, natural ecosystems, heritage towns, modern cities, mountainous and coastal landscapes, and offers access to island destinations such as Corfu, Paxoi, Thasos, and Samothraki. These serve as natural extensions of the route, reinforcing its reach from the Aegean to the Ionian and beyond.
Beginning as a national-level initiative, the project is designed with the potential to expand internationally, reconnecting the broader geography of the ancient Via Egnatia across the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean.
